Specialist support for children with deafblindness
If your child has both vision and hearing loss, you may know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to navigate multiple services, appointments and providers – all while trying to support your child’s development and wellbeing.
Vision Australia’s deafblind program is designed to reduce that load for families.
Instead of juggling multiple providers, your family will be supported by one lead service provider who understands the combined impact of vision and hearing loss and works with you to collaborate around the right support for your child.
This means less time managing services, and more time focusing on your child and your family.
Program details
Support through our deafblind program is tailored to your child and adapts as they grow.
Families can expect:
- individualised goal setting based on your child’s strengths, needs and priorities.
- coordinated, evidence-based support that considers both vision and hearing needs together.
- practical strategies you can use at home, in early learning settings and at school.
- collaboration with educators, allied health professionals and other services involved in your child’s care.
- optional key-worker support for your child and family.
Our approach focuses on the whole child, recognising that deafblindness exists on a spectrum and that every child – and every family – is different.
