Living with vision loss can involve significant challenges but there are positives that can come from the experience, such as making new friends, learning new skills and getting involved in different social and recreational activities.
Vision Australia provides opportunities for people who are dealing with vision loss to talk to people in a similar situation. If you are interested in talking over the phone to someone in a similar situation, you can find more details on the individual support page.
If you are interested in meeting a group of people in a similar situation, read on.
The Vision Australia Quality Living Program facilitates client support groups that can help to alleviate feelings of isolation, loneliness and frustration that you may experience with vision loss.
The groups are a place where you can share your experiences, and learn more about the vision specific services that we provide in a supportive setting.
Many clients who have joined a Quality Living Group say that it has been one of the best things they’ve done since experiencing vision loss. They’ve been able to share their ideas about making life easier, talk about barriers they’re facing, feel the support of others who really understand, and often make lifelong friends.
Quality Living Groups are open to all ages, either face-to-face at a number of Vision Australia centres, or over the telephone.
