Sydney Writers Festival

Vision Australia Library is proud to commence our partnership with the Sydney Writers Festival in 2026.  We are privileged to support a festival that brings together a broad and engaged community around the sharing of books, writing and ideas. By showcasing a wide range of Australian and international writers, the Festival helps sustain Australia’s literary community and culture as a whole.

Event Description

Vision Australia Library is delighted to confirm critically acclaimed author, Mick Herron, will be In Conversation discussing the latest instalment of the Slough House thrillers, ‘Clown Town’.

Mick Herron is a critically acclaimed British thriller novelist, best known for his Slough House spy series, which was adapted into the Apple TV+ series ‘Slow Horses’. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne and educated at Oxford, he writes witty, character-driven espionage stories that focus on office dysfunction, often described as a mix of John le Carré and dry, biting humour.

Mick will be In Conversation Michael Williams, editor of ‘The Monthly’. Formerly the artistic director of Sydney Writers’ Festival, Michael has spent the past decade at the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas in Melbourne. A regular host and interviewer for literary and ideas events around Australia, Michael has an extensive background in publishing and broadcasting.

About Clown Town

In the latest instalment of Mick Herron’s internationally bestselling series, palms are itching among Jackson Lamb’s cohort of misfit spies.  A legendary former spy’s missing book, a state secret and some mischievous blackmail: which underhanded action will rock the carefully calibrated boat of Slough House?

An instant Sunday Times bestseller, ‘Clown Town’ is a spy thriller with a witty twist and an unforgettable band of characters. Crowned Thriller of the Year, Crime Book of the Year, Book of the Year. Mick Herron is “an authentic megastar of the genre”, and 'Clown Town’ is a masterpiece.
