Event Description
The Vision Australia Library proudly welcomes Chloe Adams to be the second guest in our new program, Author Reading with the Vision Australia Library.
Our Author Reading will commence with an introduction to Chloe, providing an insight into her background and the journey that led to her writing her debut novel The Occupation.
Chloe will then choose a passage from this award-winning novel and treat us to a live reading for 20 minutes. Our library members will have the opportunity to post questions via the Zoom chat, which will contribute to a lively Q&A to conclude our event.
The Occupation
The Occupation tells the story of a young woman who travels to Japan in 1948 as part of the Allied occupation force in Hiroshima. As she settles into her new life, Mary finds carefree expats touring the countryside, hosting picnics and even throwing parties, all while the war-ravaged locals try to rebuild their lives. While there, she is confronted with moral ambiguity and the consequences of her own transgressions.
“Chloe Adams has crafted an affecting war story and a moving love story in a time and setting we knew little about.”
