Event description
Does your child or teen know what they want to do when they grow up? Explore what’s possible at Future Me, a fun, informative and inclusive careers day hosted by Vision Australia!
At Future Me, kids and teens aged 0 to 18 who are blind or have low vision can explore a world of career options, and discover the life skills they’ll need to pursue their dream jobs.
It’s an exciting, hands-on event designed to inspire and inform children, young people and their families about the many career opportunities they could pursue, and what kids and parents can do today to prepare for the future.
Over the course of the day, some of the activities on offer for each age group include:
- meeting a range of adults who are blind or have low vision and are working in a wide variety of exciting careers
- building and playing with LEGO and LEGO braille bricks
- decorating cupcakes with a chef who is blind
- dress-up and role play for younger children to explore all the jobs people do
- meeting real firefighters and exploring a real fire engine, while discovering jobs in emergency services
- engaging and accessible story time with Vision Auralia’s Feelix Library.
You’ll also have the chance to find out about Vision Australia’s Life Ready program, as well as other school and graduate programs designed to help kids and young people pursue their dream futures.
Plus, Vision Australia Epping’s Vision Store will be open during the event, so you can explore the latest in assistive tech.
Whether your child is yet to start pre-school or is already considering life after high school, Future Me is your chance to be inspired by a range of professionals who are blind or have low vision, and learn more about the life skills your child can develop now to ensure they can pursue whatever job they like in the future.
