The COVID-19 pandemic has become a shared experience by many, but the experience alongside living with vision loss is one that is unique to a few.

This week on Vision Australia Radio’s Studio 1 podcast, hosts Matthew Layton and Sam Rickard speak to eight people with lived experience about their musings of lockdowns, masks and the fatigue of COVID-19.

Carolyn Johnson in South Australia just overcame a bought of COVID-19.

“I was so tired, I re-watched reruns of the Brady Bunch,” she said.

“I've come out a few kilos heavier and I think I'm a bit more an anxious person than I used to be, and I'd like to get rid of that.”

For Paralympian Sophie Patten, it was very hard to keep her fitness up when you couldn’t use a guide or get on a tandem bike easily.

“It was disappointing because riding a tandem bike was the only way I can ride a bike,” she said.

“Depending on the lockdown, it also affected my ability to have like my support workers over, to continue to build on my skills in cooking and different things like that and get out of the house a bit more.”

Paul Patterson admits he would end up talking to his dog to pass the loneliness but discovered cleaning out his kitchen cabinets kept him busy.
