People can relate to the challenges of putting on eyeliner, blind or not.

Lucy Edward’s video ‘how society expects me to do my eyeliner vs how I actually do my eyeliner’ has over 165,000 videos views on social media app Tik Tok.

UK-based Lucy Edwards lost her vision when she was 17 years old and has amassed a huge following on Tik Tok and Youtube. Her refreshing approach and informational videos on how she gets on with her day, how she manages to do her flawless makeup has viewers enthralled.

Speaking to Vision Australia Radio’s Studio 1, Lucy said getting her way through an accessible makeup routine has helped her remain independent.

“You don't need to ask someone else,” she said.

“Having a lip gloss instead of a lipstick, for instance. Realising that maybe you can just use a clear mascara and a CC cream for now. That's what helped me.”

Lucy started creating content due to the lack of information available when she needed it.

“When I first googled blindness, nothing came up for me and I felt so, so sad,” she said.

“Now my videos come up.”

She has been able to foster a larger understanding about needs and wants of the blindness and low vision community through her platform.

Recently, her partnership with shampoo company Pantene saw the company introduce accessibility options on their products, with QR code technology to help them make an informed choice.
