‘80s and ‘90s kids will recognise this name.

Charlotte Kelly, a lead vocalist to UK soul and dance group Soul II Soul and a singer-songwriter in her own right is this week’s guest on Vision Australia Radio’s Studio 1.

Soul II Soul made waves with their song Back to life (However do you want me) in 1989, but it wasn’t until 1994 that Charlotte Kelly joined the collective as a lead singer.

Scouted by Jazzie B and Lisa Stanfield (of All around the world fame) Charlotte’s voice would become a soundtrack to the clubbing community around the world.

But, something as simple as finding the mic on stage or stepping around cables was daunting for Soul II Soul singer.

Charlotte Kelly singing I Care for the band Soul II Soul:

Born with nystagmus, and with her vision down to three per cent, it was a sore spot of the UK singer songwriter.

Just recently, she’s been able to hack her way onto the stage with a highly reflective piece of tape.

“I don't have to be carried on stage, you know, like some sort of casualty that's just arrived to sing a number,” she told Studio 1.

“They have found some fluorescent tape, which they put down on the ground and it shines in the dark, which means it leads me straight to the microphone, which is amazing for me because it gives me that independence.”

That hack is one of a few videos Charlotte is featuring on her new Youtube channel Blinding Vision.

Next on the list is a make-up tutorial.
