After eight years of service on the Vision Australia Board, Caroline Waldron was honoured with a Vision Australia Award at the 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The AGM marked the end of Caroline’s time as a Board member, during which she has helped Vision Australia navigate the move to the NDIS, as well as support the launch and implementation of a number of different initiatives.

Caroline bought an extensive skill set to the Board. She started her professional life as a lawyer, but subsequently went on to hold C-level leadership positions in HR, risk, internal audit and marketing in a variety of sectors in Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia.

Her strong HR background in particular has meant Caroline’s time on the board will leave a lasting legacy for the Vision Australis’s workforce and clients.

“Of all the work that I have been a part of at Vision Australia, I am most proud of the professionalism and performance culture that has developed within Vision Australia,” Caroline said.

“I’m proud of the people of Vision Australia, staff and volunteers alike, who provide excellent services to our clients despite an ever-changing external environment. This type of excellence comes from a deep set of values and commitment to serve which all our people have emblazoned in their hearts.”

For Caroline, receiving a Vision Australia Award is something she described as an honour.

“I was very humbled,” she said.

“I know I stand on the shoulders of many who have come before me. Also, in my mind, the people who serve our clients every day, are the ones who actually deserve the award.”

While Caroline’s official time with Vision Australia may have drawn to close, by no means will it be the end of her strong bond with the organisation.

“I’m very sad to be leaving the board, but I do so knowing that the organisation continues to have a great Board at its helm. I intend to maintain a connection with Vision Australia in some shape or form in the years ahead.”

First handed out in 2006, the Vision Australia Awards are given in recognition of people and organisations which give up their time and resources to support the work of Vision Australia and the wider blind and low vision community.
