Vision Australia is proud to expand its telehealth line-up by introducing a brand new cooking program!

Completely tailored to the individual’s needs and current level of cooking ability, the program aims to expand cooking knowledge and skills through virtual, yet hands-on cooking sessions.

Comprised of three 90-minute one-on-one sessions with one of Vision Australia occupational therapist, and a fourth session spent cooking and dining with other participants, the program is both a fantastic entry point for anyone new to the kitchen, but also as a great building block for someone looking to expand their culinary expertise.

Vision Australia occupational therapist Dominica said with the current social isolation procedures in place, now is a great time for people to get into the kitchen.

“Many people are staying home for meals rather than eating out in restaurants at the moment. Offering this service, where clients have the time to engage and learn skills, was a logical decision.” she said.

Dishes prepared during the course will depend on what the participant wants to learn and their skill level, but will also ensure they’re learning new skills.

“The program is very individualised. The first session is spent understanding the current level of skills that a client has, and discussing what skills that could be developed from this starting base,” Dominica said

“The skills taught will also depend on if a client is alone during these session or if they have a support person present. If a support person is present, additional skills can be taught.”

Anyone over the age of 18, who is blind or has low vision, is able to apply. Simply fill out this application form and we'll be in touch! You can also apply over the phone on 1300 84 74 66.
