Vision Australia is proud to announce that our very own Martine Roberts, Equipment Library Trainee Administration Officer in Coorparoo, has won Apprenticeships Melbourne’s Trainee of the Year Award!

Martine started as a trainee in Vision Australia’s Social Enterprise in Brisbane in September 2012, where she completed a Certificate III in Business Administration and provided administration support to the 3PL area. Martine’s professionalism, capability, dedication and courtesy meant she was a highly coveted candidate for the Equipment Library inaugural Traineeship following Enterprises’ closure. Martine’s current role oversees the implementation of the Equipment Library Project, which aims: 1. To improve the availability of assistive technology items to staff, so they can demonstrate the technology to clients. This equipment is loaned to staff to enable clients to determine if the product is suited to their needs. 2. To maintain a pool of donated second-hand equipment that clients can access if they are experiencing financial hardship and cannot access any government equipment funding schemes.

Martine is totally blind in one eye, and has only central vision in the other.  In spite of this, she is very independent, learning fast and producing high quality work efficiently and with minimal instruction.  She has drafted procedures for tracking, requesting, issuing and receiving equipment and created a spreadsheet called the 'Equipment Library Tracker' to view and track the available equipment across all centres. Her manager, Luisa, reports that Martine delivers 100% of the time on time and her trainer, Kristine, reports that she does everything asked, is always organised for their meetings, and has completed more than expected.

Despite having an end date specified by the Department of Education, Training and Employment (QLD) for her qualification in February 2020 for her combined Cert IV and Diploma, Martine has already completed 2/3 of the two courses in only 8 months, and has only one unit left to complete her Cert IV.

Martine has won a gift voucher of $500 from either Coles Myer or Bunnings. What perfect timing for her to spoil herself over Christmas. Congratulations Martine!
