On Monday August 12, Vision Australia hosted an event to celebrate the signing of that WIPO treaty which will enhance the availability of alternate format books around the world.

The event was attended by around 50 people at Vision Australia’s Kooyong Centre in Melbourne and you can hear the proceedings in a Talking Vision special presented by Stephen Jolley. The morning was hosted by Vision Australia CEO Ron Hooton and the speakers were:
  • Frances Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO);
  • Richard Glenn, Assistant Secretary Business and Information Law Branch of the federal Attorney General’s Department;
  • Professor Ron McCallum AO, Deputy Chair of Vision Australia and Immediate Past Chair of the United Nations Committee monitoring the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
  • Maryanne Diamond, General Manager International and Stakeholder Relations with Vision Australia and Immediate Past President of the World Blind Union.
