On Thursday September 18, a team from Vision Australia visited Parliament House Melbourne. To raise awareness of living with blindness and low vision amongst Victorian State Parliamentarians, we set up a number of displays and invited MPs to drop-by and learn about Vision Australia’s services to the blind and low vision community.

The event was an unprecedented success with forty-five politicians representing approximately one-third of the Victorian Parliament attending. Most MPs took a considerable amount of time to meet the Vision Australia team and hear about our services.

The undoubted star of the day was Becky the Kooyong promotional Seeing Eye Dog who posed for countless photos with politicians and was widely “tweeted” and “facebooked” in the following hours.

Also, some great content was gathered from MPs for Vision Australia Radio through recorded conversations with Stephen Jolley which you can hear in his Talking Vision special.

Vision Australia will now look to replicate this initiative in other parliaments across the country.
