Clay Target Shooting was the standout event in October for the Vision Australia Centre in Shepparton which ran a number of recreational programs for clients during the month.

Recreation Development Worker Louise Pettigrew teamed with local organisation Access for all Abilities to organise the event.

On the arranged day, clients from our Shepparton and Albury centres met in Wangaratta for a fantastic time that exceeded all expectations. Seven clients, two with Seeing Eye Dogs, started off with a safety session that included familiarising themselves with the targets and the guns, and learning all aspects of safety involved in the sport.

Shepparton client Aaron Dove, who is totally blind and was shooting for the first time, hit seven targets in a row before the club increased the level of difficulty by adding more targets. Six of the seven clients hit targets on the day thanks to great communication and leadership from club members and Vision Australia volunteers.

The Wangaratta Clay Target Shooting Club has invited the group back for another session, stating that it was one of the most rewarding days they have had. Work is also in progress for a camp in 2014.
