Vision Australia has today announced it will soon be joining Bendigo’s new medical precinct on Bridge Rd, a move that will make it easier for the blindness and low vision community to access services.

Construction of the custom-fitted building will begin next month and will comprise training rooms, low vision clinics, a day centre and onsite radio station.

Vision Australia has outgrown its current building on McIvor Rd, a location it’s held since 1953, but sees the move as necessary.

Ron Hooton, Chief Executive Officer of Vision Australia, said the organisation has a long-term commitment to provide blindness and low vision services to the region.

“Over the next few years, Vision Australia will increase its breadth of services across Australia, including Bendigo. We’ve been a part of this community for decades so we want to ensure our staff, clients and volunteers are provided comfortable and modern facilities, and working conditions, going into the future. “

“The current location has become very outdated and has poor access. Our new location is much closer to the CBD, easier to find and is in the same vicinity as other eye and health care providers,” he said.

Vision Australia Bendigo provides services within Victoria’s largest health region of Loddon Mallee. It currently provides services to around 2000 people who are blind or have low vision.

Maree Edwards MP, State Member for Bendigo West said: “I congratulate Vision Australia on its long-term commitment to Bendigo. I fight hard to ensure that locals have access to the services that they need here in Bendigo. Vision Australia is the leading provider of blindness and low vision services and it’s great know the people of this region will be able to access their fantastic range of support services long into the future.”
