A new initiative from Vision Australia is set to help people who are blind or have low vision feel more confident when pursuing their employment goals.

Run by Vision Australia’s Melbourne South East region, the Be Your Best Dressed program provides eligible clients with a complimentary outfit to help them look and feel confident and comfortable when it comes to looking for work, attending interviews or starting a new role.

Outfits are provided to Vision Australia Melbourne South East clients as part of their Employment Services support. Each client is eligible for one outfit every 12 months. Quality outfits are sourced from Vision Australia Op Shops and consist of up to four items of clothing.

“It really comes down to the importance of confidence. We want to help people feel comfortable and confident going into a new job or an interview process,” Vision Australia Melbourne South East coordinator of volunteers Kath Struthers said.

“We know that if we make sure people feel comfortable and confident they’ll have a better chance of expressing that to others and give themselves every chance to succeed,” Kath said.

To be eligible for Be Your Best Dressed you must:

  • Be a current Vision Australia Melbourne South East Region client
  • Be receiving services from Disability Employment Services at Vision Australia
  • Be actively looking for work
  • Not have received an outfit from the program in 12 months

We also provide tips on styling and grooming to present well at an interview. A follow-up fitting to provide extra work clothing and accessories is provided once a client has found employment. That way they can start their new role with a variety of outfits to help them look and feel their absolute best.

If you are eligible and you believe the Be Your Best Dressed program would benefit you, please make a booking with your Employment Services Consultant at the Melbourne South East Office in Dandenong. A 30 minute fitting session will take place to choose appropriate items.
