As the March closure of Vision Australia Enterprises (VAE) nears, positive progress continues to be made in helping its affected staff transition to suitable alternatives.

Sixty-one of the 71 staff affected have successfully moved into other opportunities. Vision Australia continues to work closely with the remaining 10 staff to transition them into other opportunities.

Throughout this change, Vision Australia's focus has been on the employees and doing the best it can for each and every one of them.

Vision Australia has linked all blind and low vision employees with CRS Australia, a government department, to develop mutually-agreed, individualised plans.

To date, 15 staff have accepted paid positions with Vision Australia's Open Employment and Training program. These roles will be within various departments of the organisation, including Seeing Eye Dogs and the National Call Centre (NCC). Staff will work within Vision Australia while gaining qualifications through the training program.

The remaining staff have since retired, moved onto other roles at other organisations, or into community-based programs.

With a month to go until closure, Vision Australia will continue to explore the available options for the remaining staff. Vision Australia will stand by its promise to continue to support staff now and after the doors close.

Planning is underway for a fitting farewell when Enterprises closes at the end of March.
