Talking Vision is Vision Australia's national radio program on blindness and low vision.

In the program for the week of May 20, we bring you a highlight from TEDx Sydney. A feature of the opening session was a presentation from Professor Ron McCallum, a distinguished Australian for many reasons which include his current United Nations role on the Committee Monitoring the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Ron who has been totally blind from birth, told his personal story through "My Insight Into The Blind Reading Revolution" before an audience of 2200 people in the Sydney Opera House on Saturday May 4. The proceedings of TEDx Sydney were broadcast live on ABC Radio and video streamed internationally.

Also this week, we find out a little of Vision Australia's Telelink Program. This is a national service, using the telephone to bring people who are blind or have low vision together in a social setting to discuss topics of interest.

Participants this week are:

  • Maria Markou, Manager of Vision Australia's Telephone Social and Recreation Program;
  • Alan Mitchell, a participant in the Telelink Program who lives at Bendigo in Victoria;
  • Professor Ron McCallum AO.
