Young children who are blind or have low vision were read to by Australian multi-award winning actress Sigrid Thornton at Vision Australia's Kooyong centre recently.

Sigrid's story-time was part of Vision Australia's Feelix Library's Book Week reading.
Around 10 children, who are blind or have low vision, and their families, enjoyed story-time with Sigrid, who read out and brought to life The Elephant and the Bad Baby.

Sigrid has been a patron of the Feelix Library since it was launched in 2003.

The 'Feelix Library' for children is Vision Australia's response to the need for very young children who are blind or have low vision, to have access to stories like their sighted peers. Parents and siblings can then share wonderful stories together with their child or sibling, and learn about braille.

Sigrid said she has had an amazing time with the Feelix Library and has a huge admiration for what it does.

"Feelix has achieved so much over the last 10 years while maintaining a sense of family. What I love the most is coming into read the same books to these children as I used to read to my children," she said.

Louise Curtin, Feelix Library Manager, said Sigrid's involvement is important because she understands how vital early literacy is to young children who are blind or have low vision.

"She is a great communicator and she really knows how to put families at ease," she said.
