Today, World Sight Day (Thursday 12 October 2017), Vision Australia has announced Priceline Pharmacy as the new Presenting Partner of its major fundraising event Carols by Candlelight.

An Australian tradition, Carols by Candlelight has a remarkable history of supporting children who are blind or have low vision and this year marks the 80th anniversary for the iconic Christmas celebration.

Ron Hooton, Chief Executive Officer of Vision Australia, says he is thrilled to partner with Priceline Pharmacy for 2017.

"Our new Presenting Partner, Priceline Pharmacy, is 100% about women and their families, and has become a trusted household name in its 35 years of operation. We are looking forward to being able to work closely with Priceline Pharmacy and spread the joy of this season of kindness and togetherness, across the nation.

“This event allows supports Vision Australia’s Children’s Services, which helps children who are blind or have low vision, at each life stage from birth, through first steps, starting school, finding a first after-school job, to transitioning into the youth and adult programs,” Ron said.

Priceline Pharmacy CEO and Managing Director, Richard Vincent, says: “We are excited to be partnering with Carols by Candlelight because it is such an historic event which is loved by so many Australians, including our customers. No matter what age you are, when it comes to Christmas Eve this is a tradition to be on your TV screen, unless you’re lucky enough to be seeing it live.”

Two legendary Carols by Candlelight performers Silvie Paladino and Denis Walter recently visited Priceline Pharmacy Highpoint, Victoria, where Silvie said: “I’ve always loved Priceline, so I’m really happy to see the brand come on board to support Vision Australia and Carols by Candlelight.”

Whether attending at Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, watching the live national broadcast on Channel 9, listening to the simulcast on 3AW or Vision Australia Radio, millions of Australians enjoy the event each year on Christmas Eve and it raises much-needed funding for support services for children who are blind or have low vision.

Vision Australia and Priceline Pharmacy are encouraging all Australians to get involved with Carols by Candlelight 2017 by signing up for the ‘Carols by Candlelight Club’ email list, interacting with the events’ social media channels and buying tickets to the event and watching the broadcast.

About Carols by Candlelight

Held in Melbourne at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and broadcast across the country on Christmas Eve, Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight presented by Priceline Pharmacy is a musical spectacular that showcases some of the most popular classical and contemporary performers. This beloved annual Australian Christmas tradition originated in Melbourne in 1938 and is now enjoyed by millions of Australians across the country each year. This year marks the events’ 80th anniversary. All of the funds raised by Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight go directly to provide services for children who are blind or have low vision and their families. Vision Australia does receive some funding to deliver children’s services, but the need in the community means it is delivering far more than funded to do so. In 2016, thanks to the support of the Australian public, over $1.2 million was raised.
