Vision Australia was recently invited to the School Aged Care program at Wales St Primary School in Thornbury to speak to the students about orientation and mobility (O&M) dog guides, and to receive a donation of $261. This was raised by the students who organised and ran an after-school café selling delicious drinks and goodies.

O&M Specialists Michelle SharThe children of Wales St Primary School listen to speakers from Vision Australia ples and Penny Stevenson, with Seeing Eye Dog Hermione, attended the program. The students were very excited to see their special guests.

Once everyone was settled, the students were very attentive and engaged in a discussion about O&M and dog guides. The students enjoyed sharing all the things they knew about dog guides and long canes, and there were plenty of great questions, such as “how do you get around when you don't have your dog with you?” and “does Hermoine know her rights and lefts?”

Thank you to the students and staff at Wales St School Aged Care Program for your interest, fantastic questions and brilliant fundraising effort.
