Vision Australia's Maryanne Diamond has been awarded the David Blyth award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to improve the quality of life of people who are blind and vision impaired in Australia and throughout the world.

The David Blyth award is a National Award, given by Blind Citizens Australia biennially, in recognition of the work of an individual to improve the quality of life of blind and vision impaired Australians at a national level. All members are given the opportunity to nominate a person who they believe is worthy of the award.

This nomination must include details of how the person has contributed at a national level and a statement as to why the person should receive such an accolade.

The nominee can be a person who is blind, vision impaired or sighted. Nominations are then considered by a sub-committee of the Board and the details of the recommended recipient is then put to the remaining Board members for approval.

The Award is only presented every two years if a suitable worthy candidate has been nominated and approved by the Board, otherwise no such award is given.
