Public speaking is a communication skill that can play an important part in employment, education and being able to interact with others in public settings.

To help young people who are blind or have low vision develop their confidence in public speaking and develop their communication skills in general, Vision Australia has partnered with Toastmasters to launch a new program.

The Australia-wide program is open to those from 15 to 25 years of age who are blind or have low vision. The program will run over five weeks from the middle of July via video conference.

With the guidance of professional facilitators from Toastmasters, the program will assist participants to:

  • Feel more confident when speaking publicly whether that be at school or university or in a work environment
  • Tap into techniques to become a better listener and respond to others in a meaningful way
  •  Be comfortable and open to receiving and giving feedback
