At an impromptu ceremony at Vision Australia's Belmont office, Robert McGill, presented a $50,000 donation to Vision Australia's Children's Services.
"Children have so much to learn and experience," Mr McGill said. "The whole family needs support."
Mr McGill, a retired bread carter, has lived in Geelong his entire life. With four children, 11 grandchildren and a new great-grandchild, he says he was inspired by the 2010 Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight® presented by Myer, which highlighted the invaluable work of Vision Australia's Children's Services.
Geelong Team Manager, Anne Johnson, and member of the Client Representative Council, Brian Hunter, were delighted to accept the cheque presented by Mr McGill on Tuesday 21st June.
Mr McGill toured the local centre and spent time with Early Childhood Educator, Geraldine Ryan. A highlight of the tour was experiencing the Feelix Library, which feature tactile books that are a vital tool in teaching children who have low vision or blindness the magical world of books and the early stages of literacy.
"Vision Australia's Children's Services works in positive partnerships with children and their families who are blind or have low vision to ensure they can better adapt to their surroundings and overcome the barriers they encounter," said Ms Johnson.
"Mr McGill's generous donation will help provide these services and ensure the children receive the best start in life."
