Awards are an integral part of Australia Day. They recognise and honour the outstanding achievement of Australian. Awards celebrate Australian excellence in our community.

This year, Vision Australia is very proud to congratulate six very special people who have been recognised for, among other things, their dedication to supporting people who are blind or have low vision.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM):

Ms Maggie BEER

For service to the tourism and hospitality industries as a cook, restauranteur and author, and to the promotion of Australian produce and cuisine. Maggie is a Vision Australia Ambassador and presents a regular cooking segment on Vision Australia Radio.

Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM):

Mr Malcolm Carey DAUBNEY

For service to people with a vision impairment through Vision Australia. Mr Daubney was a Board Member at Vision Australia, between 2004 and 2006. Mr Daubney was also a Board Member for the Centre for Eye Research Australia and a Board Member at Vision 2020 Australia, between 2003 and 2005.

Ms Roma Lois DIX

For service to people who are blind or have low vision, the performing arts, and to the community of Mittagong.

Mr Gerrard James GOSENS

For service to people who are blind or vision impaired, and to sport. Mr Gosens is currently a Special Projects Officer at Vision Australia.

Mr Geoffrey Raynor (Jeff) HOOK

For service to the print media as a political and social commentator, and as a cartoonist. Mr Raynor is a Life Governor of Vision Australia.

Dr Lindsay Owen McMILLAN

For service to people with a disability through a range of health organisations and employee assistance programs. Dr McMillan was General Manager, Vision Australia (formerly known as Association for the Blind AFTB) between 1981-1991.
