The Australia Day Honours List recognises worthy individuals with awards for their significant contributions and service.

In 2016, the following awardees have been recognised for their work in the blindness and low vision field.

Vision Australia sincerely congratulates all recipients.

Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

The late Mr John Alfred Shute, Mt Waverley Vic - For service to the blind and those with low vision. John was fully sighted yet he learnt literary braille then went on to learn the music braille code to work as a volunteer braille music transcriber at Vision Australia. John dedicated the majority of his retirement to converting music to braille.

Dr Brian Campbell McFarlane, Hawthorn, Vic - For service to the arts as a teacher, film critic, reviewer and author. Dr McFarlane has recorded audio books at Vision Australia since 2000.

Ms June Helen Treadwell, Paynesville Vic - For service to education, to Vision Australia, and to the Anglican Church of Australia.

Dr Lyon Phillip Robinson, NSW - For significant service to medicine, particularly as a pioneer in the field of ophthalmic surgery.

Professor Minas Theodore Coroneo, Vaucluse NSW - For distinguished service to ophthalmology, to the research and development of innovative surgical technologies and devices, and to eye health in regional and Indigenous communities.
