Vision Australia has announced the election of Andrew Moffat as Chair of Vision Australia. Mr Moffat was elected at yesterday’s Annual General Meeting in Melbourne.

The appointment comes after outgoing Chair, Dr Kevin Murfitt, announced he would be stepping down after 10 years as a Director and Chair.

Vision Australia’s Chief Executive, Ron Hooton, said Mr Moffat would bring extensive experience to the role.

“The calibre of Vision Australia’s Board of Directors is extremely high and that extends to Andrew. He’s been a Director since 2011, and with his extensive financial, governance and commercial experience, and involvement with other blindness organisations in the UK, he has the full support of the Board,” Mr Hooton said.

Mr Moffat, who has low vision, is a senior banker and qualified mediator and has a career that spans more than 20 years in both Australia and the UK. He has held senior level roles at major banks including ANZ, NAB, NatWest(UK).

He was a Board Director and Trustee for Action for Blind People in the UK and is the current President of the VRI Fencing Club.

Currently, Andrew owns his own private practice mediating commercial disputes. In 2013, he was awarded the 2013 LEADR Practitioner Award for Significant Contribution to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

“Andrew brings valuable experience with complex organisations and change as well as his own personal insight into vision impairment. I’m looking forward to working alongside Andrew to deliver our core mission of delivering person-centred services to our clients through the roll-out of the NDIS,” Mr Hooton said.

Mr Hooton thanked Dr Murfitt for his contribution to Vision Australia.

“As Chair, Kevin has provided remarkable leadership for Vision Australia during some challenging times. This includes merging eight organisations to become Vision Australia, the global financial crisis, and more recently our revitalisation as we respond to the introduction of individualised funding streams,” Mr Hooton said.
