Valma, 83,  has to have regular injections in her eye to stabilise the degeneration of her vision. While she’s thankful for the treatment, she was left unable to read books with her current level of sight.

Thanks to a product designed especially for people who are blind or have low vision, Valma can still enjoy books. The product is an audio book player called 3G Daisy Player, which is available from Vision Australia. It’s very easy to navigate and gives Valma access to a virtual bookshelf of novels provided by Vision Australia’s library collection.

“I use the 3G Daisy Player every day and get a lot of enjoyment out of it,” she said.

Once Valma finishes reading the novels on her ‘bookshelf’ she simply selects the ‘return’ option on the 3G Daisy Player, which automatically returns her old books and replaces them with new ones. Valma said  that initially she had a conversation with a Vision Australia librarian about the kind of books she likes and since then the library continue to provide her with the kind of books she wants to read.

Technology like the 3G Daisy Player will be showcased at Vision Australia's Texpo.

The latest technology for people who are blind or have low vision will also be on display with exhibitors travelling from around the country and internationally to attend the open days.
