Come along to one of our woodwork masterclasses where you can make your very own woodwork creation. Whatever your ability, our woodwork teachers who specialise in blindness and low vision will be there to guide and teach you all the skills you need to create your own woodwork masterpiece! The classes will be held in our woodwork workshop which is specially fitted with all the tools and equipment you'll need.

Level 1 course:

In this course, you will learn how to safely operate static woodworking machinery, hand and power tools.  Laminate timber to produce a chopping board, construct a carry box using screws, and then build a bench seat using dowels.

Dates: Wednesdays 8th January to 1st July and 8th July to 16th December 2020.
Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Level 2 course:

You will construct a coffee table using mortise and tenon joints and then create a jewellery box using dovetail joints. Must have first completed level 1.

Dates: Thursdays, 9th January to 2nd July, and 9th July to 17th December 2020.
Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Level 3 course:

Create a TV cabinet using different types of hardware such as clip on hinges and drawer runners. In this course, you will also learn how to apply different types of finishes to the wood. Must have first completed both levels 1 and 2.

Dates: Mondays, 13th January to 30th June, and 6th July to 14th December 2020.
Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm

Open Access classes:

Once you have completed all three course levels, you can then move into the open access classes, where you can design and construct your own projects.

Dates: 

  • Mondays: 13th January to 30th June,  and 6th July to 14th December 2020.
  • Tuesdays: 7th January to 31st June, and 7th July to 15th December 2020.
  • Fridays: 10th January to 3rd July, and 10th July to 18th December 2020.

Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm

Restoration classes:

Bring along an old piece of furniture and learn how to bring it back to life. Attendance of prior classes is not necessary to join this course.

Cost: There is a $420 fee for this course and it is not covered by an NDIS plan.  
Dates: 10 week program on Wednesdays from 12th February to 15th April. 
Time: 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Cost:

These courses are covered by an individual's NDIS plan. For those aged over 65, courses are covered by the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. There is also an additional cost for materials. Contact us to find out which funding is available for you.
