Low vision is on the rise

In Australia today, over 575,000 Australians are living with low vision or blindness every day.

That’s 1 in 30 Australians over 60. There could be someone in your life whose mother, father, aunt, uncle or grandparent is experiencing vision loss.

Why do Australians living with low vision need to get more help?

As the number of people living with vision loss continues to rise, providing easy, direct and timely support to people who are blind or have low vision has never been more important.

Vision loss also poses other risks to older Australians, increasing the possibility of more falls, impact on mental health and other changes to their lives.

We want to help more ageing vision impaired Australians to maintain their independence for longer and show them more proven and preventative ways to practice better eye health.

Rolf’s journey with macular degeneration

A pastry chef by trade, it was a simple trip to the optometrist turned into a frightening realisation for Rolf; that he could no longer keep up with his successful bakery.

His journey back to life started after walking through the doors of Vision Australia. "I realised there were other people in the world like me."

Help us support people like Rolf who are living with low vision or blindness, so we can empower them with the tools they need to create their own path forward to live life on their terms.
