On this week’s program we talk with Doug Sloane, OAM, President of Blind Golf Australia about the national Blind Golf tournament in Adelaide at the end of May.

It’s Macular Degeneration Week and Peter Greco chats with Vision Australia client June Campbell. The 92-year-old was initially diagnosed with dry macular degeneration, the most common form of the condition and one which involves a very gradual loss of central vision.

Vision Australia has been playing host to hundreds of VIPs across the country during the past week – these VIPS are our dedicated volunteers. This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week. This year’s theme is Give Happy: Live Happy - based upon research that suggests volunteers are happier as a result of their altruistic efforts.

Volunteers have always been at the heart of Vision Australia and are absolutely critical to the services offered to people who are blind or have low vision.

Today we hear about how the international blind and low vision community is working together on a number of initiatives, to improve the lives of the people who are blind or have low vision across the world, including Australia.

With the help of our supporters Vision Australia give’s families like Kaylah’s the skills and knowledge they need to help their child develop into a happy and confident little person.

Twenty six clients between the ages of five and seventeen generously volunteered their time to Vision Australia at our Enfield centre in early March.
