In the program for the week of May 28, we celebrate a humble and generous man's extraordinary work to bring braille to the fingers of countless thousands around the world. Joseph Sullivan, is the man behind the Duxbury Braille Translation system, the predominant worldwide software product that produces braille.

In early May, Joe Sullivan was recognised by the US President and by South Africa's Blind SA for his outstanding contribution to braille literacy now incorporating over 130 languages,
and he talks in this week's program with Stephen Jolley.

Also, this week there is extended conversation with the Australian Disability Discrimination Commissioner covering his recent work in Africa, the story of the blind Chinese Dissident Chen Guancheng and much more.

Participants in the program are:

  • Braille expert Bill Jolley, talking about the work of Joe Sullivan;
  • Joe Sullivan in recognition of his contribution to availability of braille;
  • Disability Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes.
