Monday, July 6, 2pm AEST (one off session)

About: Amazon Alexa Smart Speaker program: Transform your home and daily routine with Vision Australia’s Alexa Smart Speaker and Plug program - a practical, hands-on course designed to build confidence with voice-controlled technology. Over eight interactive online sessions, participants learn how to use an Alexa smart speaker to access information, stay connected, and manage everyday tasks using simple voice commands. With devices provided and installed at no cost, personalised one-on-one support, and guided installation, the program makes it easy to embrace smart home technology and gain greater independence, convenience, and control in daily life. This course is funded by the Commonwealth Home Support program (for clients aged 65 and over), meaning there is no cost to eligible participants.

Monday, July 13, 2pm AEST (one off session)

About: Introduction to AI course: Unlock the potential of artificial intelligence with Vision Australia’s Introduction to AI course - a practical, beginner-friendly program designed for people who are blind or have low vision. Delivered online over 10 engaging sessions, the course builds confidence with tools like ChatGPT, Seeing AI and Be My Eyes, showing how AI can support everyday tasks, improve independence, and enhance communication. With a strong focus on real-world applications, accessibility, and safe use, participants gain the skills to choose and use AI effectively to stay connected, informed, and in control of daily life.

Note: funding eligibility criteria will apply to enrol in this course, such as NDIS or My Aged Care: Commonwealth Home Support program and is subject to approval by your Plan or Case Manager.

About: Smart Steps for Staying Cyber- Safe: Scammers are professionals. Anyone can fall for a scam, and there is no shame in asking for help. During the 4-week interactive program we will cover the following themes:

  • Week 1: Spot the Scam - Think before you act.
  • Week 2: The Keys to the Kingdom (Passwords & Managers)
  • Week 3: Safe Out and About (Public Wi-Fi & Hotspots) and
  • Week 4: Your Digital Safety Net (Updates, 2FA, and Getting Help)

About: CFA Home Fire Safety Awareness: Prevent, Detect, Escape - join us for this 4-part interactive program where we’ll discuss key themes for fire safety. These include Electrical fires, Heaters, Cooking, Smoking, Hoarding, Lithium-ion battery fires as well as Smoke alarms, home fire escape planning and much more.

Ray-Ban Meta AI featuring Ray-Ban smart glasses and other wearable solutions.

Friday July 10, 17, 24 and 31

When: 11am AEST

About: Vision Australia Library: Celebratory Days in our Calendar

  • Week 1 Valentines Day: we will cover Romantic fiction, everything from Romeo & Juliet to Little Women to The English Patient.
  • Week 2 International Guide Dog Day: this will incorporate all animals, not just dogs. Charlotte’s Web, Watership Down, Animal Farm, Storm Boy, Life of Pi, Jonathon Livingston Seagull… any book with an animal!
  • Week 3 Anzac Day: a wealth of biographies, autobiographies, non-fiction and historical fiction books. Books pertaining to any war – WW1, WW11, Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan…
  • Week 4 Halloween: we will discuss horror stories, supernatural novels, evil villains, anything vaguely scary. From Stephen King to Harry Potter.
