Vision Australia is excited to offer two introductory courses to artificial intelligence (AI). One is a detailed exploration of what AI is and how it can support you in your daily life, while the other is designed specifically for JAWS users to ensure you get the most out of this powerful technology.

Introduction to AI

If you’ve ever been curious about what AI is, how it works and how it can help people in their day-to-day lives, then you are encouraged to register for Vision Australia’s Introduction to AI course.

Offered entirely online via Teams, this 10-week course will demystify AI, and uncover its practical applications for people who are blind or have low vision.

The first three weeks of the course are designed for complete beginners who don’t have any prior experience with, or understanding of, artificial intelligence. As such, the information offered in these sessions provides a solid foundation of knowledge about what AI is and its growing role in everyday life.

Weeks four to 10 delve a little more deeply into how AI can support people who are blind or have low vision through tools such as ChatGPT, Be My Eyes and Seeing AI. Anyone who already has a basic understanding of AI is welcome to join us here in week four instead of in week one.

Whether attending the full ten classes or just the final seven, every attendee will learn:

  • how Be My Eyes can be used to describe a captured photo
  • how Seeing AI can be used to ask about text from a scanned image
  • how ChatGPT can assist with writing emails, letters and messages
  • and much more.

AI for JAWS users

Vision Australia is also offering a separate AI course specifically for JAWS users. AI can support JAWS users by summarising content from long documents quickly and effectively, significantly increasing productivity, and allows for the quick and detailed interpretation of graphics.

This training will be offered one on one via Teams or phone, and will consist of three one-hour sessions (additional time can be arranged if required). Practical examples will be provided, with participants also given the opportunity to explore their individual interests.

This course is best suited to those who are intermediate or above users of JAWS.  You will also need to have access to JAWS 2025 and Microsoft Edge.
