More than 2000 new titles have hit the library catalogue this month giving the millions of people in lockdown a wonderful trove of content to sift through and pass the time.
This week on Talking Vision, Stella Glorie gets the inside scoop on what titles made the cut, with recommendations from Vision Australia librarian Sarah Bloedorn.
The new catalogue has been populated with clients in mind, Sarah says.
“We’ve got suggestions and requests direct from our readers so it’s been wonderful to fulfil those,” she says.
American author James Patterson and English writer Lee Child are highly represented in the new influx of books.
Rural crime fiction and historical fiction also feature heavily with more Agatha Christie and Bernard Cornwell works joining the catalogue.
“I think there’s something for everyone,” Sarah says.
Here are three new book recommendations from the VA library staff:
Adult fiction: Kate Grenville – A room made of leaves
Award winning author of The Secret River, Kate Grenville tells the story of Elizabeth Macarthur—wife of the notorious John Macarthur, wool baron in the earliest days of Sydney.
Children: Danielle Binks - The year the maps changed
Coming of age story that follows a family in the late 90s in Victoria who connect with some refugees from Kosovo-Albania.
Young adult fiction: David Nicholls - Sweet sorrow
Heart-warming story of a young student who joins an amateur Shakespeare theatre company to woo his crush.
