Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.
On this week’s episode, Stella Glorie catches up with Jane Britt from Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) about this year’s Vision Australia Awards, which are now open for nominations until August 12.
Jane was the recipient of a Vision Australia Youth Award for her years of advocacy work, as not only part of the Vision Australia Client Reference Group but also more recently in her work at BCA as national policy advisor, and now policy and advocacy team leader.
Like a lot of young people, there have been points in Jane’s life where she’s wondered about where she wanted to go in life, and whether what she’s been doing has made a difference. Receiving a Vision Australia Award in 2020 was something which really motivated her and had a positive impact on her mental wellbeing.
“What it does is gives me a feeling that the things I’m doing and putting out there are actually making a difference. That’s all I’ve wanted from my life, and it really gives me the impetus to put my best foot forward and strive to make that change,” Jane said.
