Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.

We celebrate a big milestone on Talking Vision this week as Vision Australia CEO Ron Hooton celebrates 10 years in the role.

He caught up with Sam to chat about the highlights from the past 10 years, but also looks ahead to what the future holds for Vision Australia.

Reflecting on his time at Vision Australia Ron said he had plenty of proud moments, but there was one in particular that stood out for him.

“We’ve built an organisation that has a truly remarkable culture focused on the interests of people who are blind or have low vision, and that’s something all of us can be proud of,” Ron said.

Looking ahead to the future, there are a wide range of projects and initiatives in the pipeline, but the issue of unemployment within the blind and low vision community is one Ron is passionate about addressing.

“What we’re going to do is build a set of programs that help support people who are seeking employment, our programs are going to directly support those people to make a generational impact on that level of unemployment,” he said.
