Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.
On this week’s episode, Sam speaks to policy and advocacy manager Carly Iles from Vision 2020 Australia about the organisation’s key priorities for the new Labor government.
While the Labor party has only been in power for two months, Carly said there are encouraging signs for Vision 2020 Australia and other blindness and low vision organisations to work with the government.
“A new government provides opportunities to find new champions of eye health, and also increase knowledge around the treatment and prevention challenges facing the [blindness and low vision] sector,” Carly said.
Carly said Vision 2020 Australia’s discussions with government currently focus around services and supports for the blind and low vision community, which have been longstanding issues.
“There’s ongoing frustrations around the services and supports that are available for people who are blind or have low vision, and there’s some really simple and affordable ways to ensure they remain independent and engaged in their communities,” she said.
