Vision Australia Radio are finalists in four categories in the 2022 Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) awards.
Each year community media organisations from across Australia submit nominations over 32 categories to highlight excellence and achievements in all areas of broadcasting. This year the CBAA received over 300 nominations that were judged by a diverse range of people working in community media to confirm the finalists for each category.
The nominations and categories for Vision Australia Radio are:
- Best Station Production: Talking Vision 600 episode special
- Best Online Content: Let’s Talk About Vision Loss
- Excellence in Creative Audio: White Cane Day
- Excellence in Outside Broadcasting: 2021 Vic Disability and Sports Recreation Festival
Vision Australia Radio manager, Conrad Browne said nominations were a tribute to the network’s unique service.
"All of our nominations demonstrate our commitment to providing a voice and opportunities to create content for the blind and low vision community," Conrad said.
"It’s an honour to be recognised for this by our peers in the community media sector."
About the nominations
Talking Vision 600th episode, this on-air promotion was linked to a special program looking back on the past 11 years of Talking Vision to highlight why it continues to be an important part of blind and low vision community’s lives.
Let’s Talk About Vision Loss features eight people who share their very personal stories of blindness or low vision to help others facing similar experiences. Each story highlights their emotional experiences of vision loss and the support and services that led them to regain independence.
White Cane Day 2021, featuring interviews and music performances from Australian and international blind and low vision performers, this broadcast was a celebration to educate the world about the importance of mobility aids and to celebrate the successes achieved by blind and low vision people in the sighted world.
Disability Sports and Recreation Festival 2021, held on International Day of People with Disability in Melbourne, this in-studio and outside broadcast initiative included a range of interviews with community leaders and groups celebrating the event.
CBAA award winners will be announced in late October.
