It’s a Talking Vision special this week as host Sam Colley speaks with opening batter for the Australian blind cricket team, Steffan Nero. Steffan recently scored 309 not out from 140 balls at the recent Inclusion Series in Brisbane vs New Zealand.
Steffan talks about the emotions and the experience of breaking a 24 year record set by Pakistan blind cricketer Masood Jan at the 1998 World Cup.
“It’s still sinking in, when I woke up that day to play I obviously didn’t expect to reach that amount of runs and break that record, so it’s definitely something I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” Steffan said.
For Steffan, the record wasn’t something he had in mind when he went out to bat that day, his sole focus was on doing what was best for the team.
“I never knew there was a record out there of that magnitude, for me it was just about trying to navigate the opening few overs and give our team a strong platform”, he said.
