Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.
On this week’s episode, we catch up with Vision Australia CEO Ron Hooton for a recap of the latest news and events from around Vision Australia.
Ron talked about the recent Career Sampler events which took place around Australia.
The events are set up to give children and young people the opportunity to meet with mentors and find out more about the work that interests them.
“Young people who are blind or have low vision are told they will never get a job. Speaking with mentors shows these young people that a career is possible and with and if they work hard and have ambition they can be successful,’ Ron said.
“They don’t receive the visual input to observe the world around them as well as sighted kids so we need to help them form their own views about employment and foster their ambitions in a different way,” he said.
