All NDIS participants will now have access to the My NDIS mobile app to see their budget and claims history as the agency boosts its coverage.
The My NDIS App launched late 2021 was primarily for self-managed plan users, and after more than 30,000 users signed up, it’s now available to all NDIS participants.
Speaking to Sam Colley on Vision Australia’s Talking Vision podcast, Shannon Rees from the National Disability Insurance Agency said the app is accessible for blind and low vision users.
“We're testing the app as we're going and we’ve worked alongside a range of different organisations including Blind Citizens Australia,” she said.
The app allows users use more technology options smartphones and tablets, rather than relying on computers or laptops.
It also means blind and low vision users will be able to use screen reader software inbuilt in their devices like Apple’s VoiceOver or Android’s TalkBack.
“They can view their budget, see their current plan online, their plan goals and their plan statement and their profile information,” Shannon said.
The NDIS is calling for new users of the app, especially the blind and low vision community to test the app and offer feedback.
“We encourage anyone who is interested to join the app improvement community, which you can do through the app,” Shannon said.
“The feedback that we get will go back into looking at what the future state of the app will be.”
