Vision Australia’s Further Education Bursary program is helping Bashir Youssef turn his long-time passion for music into a career. Each year, Vision Australia awards Further Education Bursaries to a select number of tertiary students who are blind or have low vision.
Daniel Searle is a high achiever. In high school he won a local Lions Youth of the Year Award for his community work, was an active member of his School Representative Council and the debating team.
He also did well academically, despite suffering a setback at age 15 - Daniel lost the majority of his sight halfway through Year 10 due to Leber's optic atrophy.
Nastasia is an amazing young woman. By the age of 18 she had already received a Prime Minister's Award, hosted her own radio show and attained a Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events. She is now studying journalism in at University Technology Sydney.
"I've always loved listening to radio and reading magazines, so it's something I was naturally drawn to," she says.
