Albury's blind and low vision community is set to be given the chance to learn how makeup can help them better express themselves and build self-confidence
Vision Australia will hold a makeup workshop at its Albury centre next week, with a qualified makeup artist providing expert advice around all things makeup.
Helen Vey, Vision Australia Murrumbidgee Hume regional business manager, said the not-for-profit organisation is expecting the workshop to be a popular one.
“Living with blindness or low vision doesn’t mean people can’t take an interest in makeup. Makeup goes beyond the cosmetic for many people, it’s a way for them to express their personality and feel confident about themselves,” Ms Vey said.
The workshop will be run by Felicity Cahill, the founder of DAACK Makeup Academy. Felicity will provide participants with advice on choosing the right makeup, as well as application techniques.
Ms Vey said the workshops are open to anybody who is blind or have low vision, whether they haven’t used makeup before or if they’re looking to pick up some advice on how to do things differently.
“Many people, not just those who are blind or have low vision, can struggle in finding the right makeup for them, so it’s great we can give people the chance to learn from an expert like Felicity,” Ms Vey said.
“Applying makeup often requires some delicate and precise movements, which can be a challenge for our clients. Felicity’s going to be able to provide them with some tips that will help them overcome some of those challenges.
“It doesn’t matter if somebody’s lived with blindness for a number of years and hasn’t been using makeup for that time or if they’ve just had a change in their vision and are unsure about what that means for them continuing to use makeup, we just want them to go away with the skills so they feel confident in using it whenever they want.
The makeup workshop will be held on Tuesday, April 2 from 12pm-2pm at Vision Australia Albury, 566 Olive Street, Albury. Registration is essential and can be made by emailing [email protected] or phoning 02 6041 8814.
