Our Orientation and Mobility specialist will assist with re-engaging your skills plus showcase the latest mobility aids, road crossing strategies, low vision apps and GPS technology all with a goal of getting you ready for safe and exciting travels ahead.
Topics:
Session 1 - Canes and mobility aids
Learn about pre-cane and indoor mobility skills. This is an opportunity to learn or refresh techniques for indoor mobility. You will also discover mobility aids to enhance travel, and discuss white canes, distance vision aids, glare reduction strategies and obstacle detector devices.
Session 2 - Pedestrian safety
Learn skills and strategies for crossing roads safely and confidently. You will also learn about the different types of crossings.
Session 3 - Google maps to assist with navigation
Discover how Google maps can assist in making navigation and planning routes easier. This also includes live view augmented reality and street view for route planning.
Session 4 - GPS apps for people with low vision or blindness
Learn about the latest low vision and blind specific orientation and GPS apps.
Session 5 - Public transport apps
Explore various transport apps for bus, train and taxi.
Session 6 - Navigation technology
Aira and Be My Guide (connect via phone camera to a trained professional or friend to assist with navigation and daily tasks).

Cost:
This series can be funded through your NDIS plan, My Aged Care or privately funded. Please contact us if you would like to know how to arrange funding.
