Come along and join us to explore what makes Melbourne great!

The amazing arts scene, the delicious coffee and food culture, the variety of public transport options and the atmosphere of the dynamic CBD.

This program offers an opportunity to increase your confidence to visit a range of venues across Melbourne with the support of our Orientation and Mobility Specialists. Check out the various sessions on offer below, and join as many as you like!

Program sessions:

Session 1: Visit Vision Australia’s state of the art Indoor Mobility and Training centre in Kensington, via public transport.

Date and time: March 8, 10:00am to 3:30pm
Location: Meet at Ringwood station and travel into Vision Australia’s Indoor Mobility and Training Centre in Kensington.
Description: Travel to the world first, Vision Australia indoor Mobility and Training Centre, where you can explore simulated outdoor settings in a safe environment. This includes a stationary train and platform, pedestrian crossings, roadside kerbing, functional traffic lights with audio signals, an escalator, a mock café, a reversing car, footpaths and other varying surfaces.

 

Session 2: Travel Technology

Date and time: April 19, 10:00am to 3:30pm
Location: Vision Australia Ringwood
Description: Explore a range of smartphone applications that can increase access to information when travelling to hear your current location, spoken directions and search for interesting places near you.

 

Session 3: The Arts – National Gallery of Victoria

Date and time: May 10, 10:00am to 3:30pm
Location: Meet at Ringwood station and travel to the National Gallery of Victoria
Description: Join an audio described tour of the National Gallery of Victoria

 

Session 4: Melbourne at night – live music and dinner

Date and time: June 7, 4:00pm to 9:00pm
Location: Meet at Ringwood Station and travel into the Melbourne CBD
Description: Try out some night travel techniques, as we make our way to some live music over dinner.

 

Session 5: ‘Amazing race’ - Explore Melbourne’s iconic coffee and food culture

Date and time: July 12, 10:00am to 3:30pm
Location: Meet at Ringwood Station and travel into the Melbourne CBD
Description: An amazing race to find a range of iconic café’s and restaurants around Melbourne by using travel applications on your smartphone.

Funding:

These programs can be funded through your NDIS plan, My Aged Care or privately funded.

Please contact us if you would like to know how to arrange funding.

Mobility requirements:

Independent mobility skills are required to ensure you can keep up with the group. If you require individualised mobility support, you are welcome to bring your support worker along.

Covid safety measures:

Vision Australia has strict COVID safety protocols in place both when visiting our offices and when out in the community.
