Vision Australia is the leading national provider of specialised vision loss services, and provide tailored home care services and support for people who have trouble with their eyesight, have low vision or are blind. 

Whatever your level of vision, your experience is entirely your own and so are your needs. We work with you to develop a tailored plan that meets your needs and interests.

Our services and supports

Our focus is to get to know you and what you want. Together we can develop your individual plan so you can stay independently in your home for longer. We offer a broad range of general services that are tailored for people who are having trouble with their eyesight or are blind. 

You can be in total control and manage the services you receive or we can provide a  single point of contact to schedule and manage services for you.

Specialised vision loss services

You can also access our specialised vision loss services and support. Vision Australia is the leading national provider of specialised vision loss services. These services can include::

  • Emotional support and counselling for adjusting to vision loss 
  • Occupational therapy to increase confidence and independence.
  • Orientation & mobility to prevent falls and be safe in the home and community
  • Social groups either in person or over the telephone to increase social inclusion
  • Adaptive technology training to increase digital access

Available government funding - Home Care Packages 

A Home Care Package can enable you to remain living independently at home and in the community for longer. It is a government funded program for subsidised long-term supports. There are four levels of funding available, ranging for people with basic needs right through to high needs – up to the value of $50,000 per year.

Personal care

If you need some extra help at home with daily activities, our team can provide dignified support for your personal care.

  • Assistance with showering
  • Toileting
  • Getting up and going to bed
  • Assistance with mobility
  • Medication prompting and monitoring
  • Monitoring of nutritional intake and fluids
  • Personal hygiene and grooming.

Home cleaning

Our team can help with all the jobs around the house to keep it clean and tidy. Our services can include:

  • Washing, drying and putting away clothes
  • Changing bed linen
  • Sweeping
  • Vacuuming
  • Washing floors
  • Cleaning bathrooms and toilets
  • Cleaning kitchen and cooking equipment
  • Window cleaning that does not require climbing.

Note: heavy tasks require two workforce members to be in attendance i.e. spring clean that requires furniture being shifted minimally. Moving of furniture room to room requires a removalist.

Social support – individual

You can get help to do everyday things both in the home and out in the community. Our services include:

  • Escorting and transporting clients to appointments, shopping, bank, post office etc.
  • Engaging in social activities
  • Assisted shopping or unassisted shopping
  • Companionship
  • Reading and cataloguing incoming mail and bills*

*Does not include of payment of accounts via internet.

Social support - group outings/special interest groups 

Getting out and about with friends, family or in the community can help you to feel connected and engaged. We can support you and a friend, or up to a group of four people, to do activities like see a live show, go to the movies or go to exercise classes. 

Respite

We can provide both personal care and social support to allow a family member or worker a rest. Light domestic duties or meal preparation may be included.

Overnight care 

Our team member can staying overnight in your home and provide assistance, company and security. This is a 12 hour shift which allows for 2 hours of active care.

24 Hour in Home Care

We can provide round the clock personal and domestic assistance in the home.

Light gardening*

Our team can assist with maintaining your garden with:

  • Mowing, trimming lawn edges
  • Weeding
  • Applying store bought weed control
  • Planting of new plants
  • Mulching.

Home maintenance

These are contracted services for home maintenance may be provided where safety, wellbeing or independence is impacted.

Nursing or non-vision specific Allied health

Registered or Enrolled Nurses, Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Orthoptists, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Speech therapists etc. to support health and wellbeing.

Specialised vision loss services 

With our specialised vision services and supports, Vision Australia helps thousands of people who are blind or have low vision, to live the life they choose. Your network of specialists can include:

  • Orthoptists - vision assessments, advice and support to understand your vision
  • Occupational Therapists to help you build practical strategies
  • Orientation & mobility experts to support you to get around safely 
  • Assistive technology including training
  • Emotional support and counselling for adjusting to vision loss
  • Social groups either in person or over the telephone to increase social inclusion
  • Recreation Groups - Each local office runs a recreation group – enquiries can be directed to the Service Coordinator for referral.
