Studio 1 is a brand new show coming to Vision Australia Radio from Tuesday, February 11.

The show will look at life in Australia from a blind and low vision point of view and will be presented by Matthew Layton.

Matthew joins Vision Australia Radio after a twenty-year career in radio in the UK, which includes experience with the BBC,  and commercial and community radio.

Matthew, who has lived with a vision impairment since birth, said

“I’ve been tasked with getting as many people living with blindness and low vision onto the radio as possible. I’m going to make it my mission to broadcast their stories and to try to convey that we’re not victims, we’re human beings with emotions, desires, opinions and – dare we say it – even a sense of humour," Matthew said.

The first show will be available from Tuesday, February 11 and will cover the bushfire crisis. Matthew will talk to Tina, a Vision Australia volunteer and client, who will explain what it’s like for a person who is blind to be evacuated from their home.

Each week the show will focus on a different topic from a blind and low vision perspective and will feature a panel discussion and we'd love to hear your thoughts about what's discussed.
